9/11/26 – The New York Philharmonic commissions We the Living, composed by Julia Adolphe with libretto by Safiya Sinclair, for the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of 9/11. The work premieres at the World Trade Center’s Perelman Center for the Performing Arts, with Gustavo Dudamel conducting. 

4/1/26 – Adolphe begins writing an evening-length choral work, to be announced, in collaboration with librettist Safiya Sinclair. Sinclair’s 2023 memoir, How to Say Babylon, was named best book of the year by The New Yorker, NPR, The Guardian, the Los Angeles Times, Vulture, Harper’s Bazaar, and Barnes & Noble, among others. 

1/25/26 – The New York Philharmonic, led by Gustavo Dudamel, performs Adolphe’s Underneath the Sheen for their debut performance at Radio City Music Hall. Underneath the Sheen has been called “wonderful, melodically entrancing” (LA Weekly), “stunning, atmospheric (Strings Magazine), and “simple and majestic” (Alta Magazine.)
